Train Paris to Amsterdam - but want to visit AMIENS first.

Hi,

Does anyone know if we can catch a train up to Amiens, where we want to spend 2 days looking around WW1 memorials etc. , and then can we catch a train from Amiens to Amsterdam. I have been trying to find this out by looking at various web sites but it would appear that we can%26#39;t do it. I do know that trains run regularly between Paris %26amp; Amiens - it is the Amiens/Amsterdam part that I am having problems working out. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how we could work this out? I thought someone local may know.

Thanks

Sue

PS - I posted this Query just on the France Forum - but realized I probably should post in the Paris one - sorry if I should not have done this

It is possible, but not straightforward. If you use sncf.com they route you back via Paris if you key in Amiens to Amsterdam. Alternatively you could travel Amiens to Lille, then Lille to Amsterdam (probably involving a change in Brussels). You would have to book this in segments, so you would need to compare timing and fares to find the best solution.

Hi,

Before i came to Paris to live, i lived in Amiens and to my knowledge i have never seen any direct train from there to Amsterdam. You especially have regular trains to Boulogne via Abbeville. I am sure there must be trains to Lille from Amiens, i don%26#39;t know if the journey is direct.

Are you renting a car from Amiens? Otherwise it will be difficult to move around in the country to see the sites. Don%26#39;t forget to visit the Cathedral in Amiens, and to have a look at the Quartier St Leu, nice neighbourhood to the left of the cathedral along the water.

You could investigate trains from TGV Haute-Picardie which is on the TGV line between Paris and Lille. I believe SNCF operates a bus service from Amiens to connect with trains, takes 40 minutes, costs 7.30€ - times are on the SNCF website. It%26#39;s not particularly convenient, as you%26#39;d still need to change in Lille and Brussels but it avoids back-tracking to Paris or CDG.
