We were in Loire Valley on October 22 and 23, 2007. We took a TGV train from Paris and were in Tours within 65 minutes. In Tours we stayed in Hotel Harmonie ( a *** Quality Group Hotel) about 150 meters from the train station. Tours is a nice city between two rivers The Loire and The Cher. It has a characteristic old quarter and a beautiful cathedral (St. Gatien). The pastries at Aux delices de Michel Colombe near the cathedral were fabulous. Across the park from the railway station there is Tourism office (www.ligeris.com) from where tours to Chateaux can be arranged and all the buses (minivans) leave from there. We took a minivan which took us to Chateaux of Cheneonceau, Amboise, Cheveny, and Chambord. Chambord is big bit Chenonceau is beautiful. A full day trip costs 49 Euro/person which does not include entrance to chateaux. There are plenty of nice places to eat in Amboise. We had a very good lunch at Anne de Bretagne near the Amboise chateau.

Hi roy54
Thank you for this information. I am currently trying to work out some type of itinery. We are planning to spend a week or so in Paris, however I also wanted to visit the Loire Valley. As we are not planning to drive from Paris being first timers to France, I found your post very helpful.
