Apartment rental for 4-day trip late January

I%26#39;m surprising my girlfriend with a trip to Paris on her 40th birthday. Any suggestions for an apartment rental? We have done Paris before - left bank hotel, Eiffel Tower, museums. This time I would like us to experience the %26quot;Parisienne%26quot; life at an apartment in an area by Sacre Couer, Montmartre, or Canal St. Martin. Are these ok areas? Thanks everyone!

You did not mention, when you were planning to come. But if the Montmartre area is your choice then there are two rental companies I would suggest, one is www.perfectlyparis.com and the other is www.parisvactionapartments.com

Both of these companies are hightly reputable and both get rave reviews on all of the forums.... and both have fabulous apartments in the Montmartre area.

Have you been to Paris before?

If not, then I personally, and I am sure I would get a lot of agreement on this,

that Montmartre would not be my choice for a first time visit to Paris.

You will not be within walking distance of most of the sights you would likely want to see. You would need to take the Metro at night unless you chose of course, to stay in your area each evening?

I would think a more %26quot;romantic%26quot; experience would be near the Seine, where you could stroll at night after some fabulous dinner somewhere...sit on one of the bridges with a bottle of wine between you and watch the ET light up!! Take the ferris wheel (carousel) at the Concord at night...and see the city all lit up in it%26#39;s amazing glory...and when it stops at the top ... give her some special little gift!! I don%26#39;t know...shall I go on???

As you can see, my strong suggestion would be to attempt to stay in the 4th or the 6th (my comparison would be the difference between say GV in NY vs the Upper West Side)... the 4th (Marais) is more eclectic...younger, hipper, great little boutiques and bistros and cafes....alive and wonderful.

The 6th is great too, but with more of the high end shopping there.

I imagine it is pretty wonderful at night too, although I have not been there at night.

I hope this helps to give you a few things to consider.

What a great boyfriend!!

Best to you both,

Tre

hi treshic!

thanks much for your suggestions. will definitely do the ferris wheel. been to paris before - the usual tourist spots- stayed at the left bank. this time i would like to experience %26#39;living in paris%26#39; in an apartment - shop in the market, cook, walk to a patisserie, eat with the locals -rather than do the tourist thing. any suggestions for an apartment in an area where i can do these things?

cheers!

Well...

Once again...I am by no means a seasoned Paris traveller. I have just had my first glorious and wonderful experience there.

With that said...

I stayed in a small studio in the Marais (4th) which I rented thru a wonderful man named Thierry at www.parisbestlodge.com.

It was a no fuss place, but was clean and had a very comfortable bed...washer/dryer that functioned amazingly well...

plenty of hot water...(hand held shower)...

and he has a full computer DSL there which I needed to stay in touch with my kids at home.

The area was wonderful. I just loved it. Eclectic and lively.

It was within easy walking distance of the Bastille%26#39;s Richard Lenoire market which is open on Sundays and Thursday. Read my trip report if you wish (it%26#39;s long!!) for more on that.

There is a darling studio on the 6th I could recommend thru www.parisvacationapartments.com ... which is 900E for the week...not sure if they have any open days available for you...but well worth a check of their website.

www.vacationinparis.com is another good site with some nice properties, as well.

Hi Tre,

Sounds like you had a truly marvelous time! You must have encouraged many young women to do the same. I am indeed focusing on Marais.

Thanks again and best wishes for a Happy Thanksgving to you and your family.
