George V or Plaza Athenee? Or other suggestions

I am taking my 71 (very mobile, active) grandmother for her first trip to Europe. I want to go first class all the way.

Anyone have preferences on these two hotels? I have read the reviews and are very similar.

THANKS

Good evening

The Hotel le meurice would offer a much better setting by the louvres/ place de la concorde / Tuilerie gardens.

Great 3 Michelin star restaurant in the hotel too

Enjoy

good idea. i should also mention, i will have a 22 month old so being close to the garden will be helpful.

I have stayed at both the Meurice and George V. They are two different hotels. The service and common area at George V are great, and I hear they treat kids great also. The area around George V is all high end stores. The rooms are very nice but not very french.

The area around the Meurice is (once you cross the busy street) is a park, the Louvre and tourist type shops. There is also Angelinas(hot chockolate and deserts). The service is not as good but until I stayed at George V I thought it was great. Another advantage is it is not as expensive and the hotel and rooms are more french. Security at Meurice seemed to be better. I think they have oil shieks and the like stay there.

Both have very good restraunts. The one at George V will cost about $500-600 if not more.

Both hotels are very nice. It just depends what you want.

I recently returned from Paris and stayed at the Hotel Raphael. First class all the way. The rooms are very French in decor and quite beautiful. We had reserved a Junior Suite with an alcove at the rate of $750 Euros per night. Whe we checked in they upgraded us to a larger suite. There were three of us in the room. The bedroom was spacious, the living room was large enough to put an extra bed. The bathroom was huge also. Service was excellent and the location was perfect for us. Walking distance to the Champs Elysee, Eiffel Tower, and ArcheTriomphe. Plenty of great restaurants in the area. Taxi ride to go just about anywhere was 10 Euros for the three of us Would definitely stay there again!!!!

Hi! I too agree with rBruse: Le Meurice is more tipically French than the George V, and I think too that%26#39;s the less expensive among great Parisian Palaces.

The George V is more indicated for 30-40 aged people, or for business traveller. For your grandmother, who surely loves old-European grandeur, I recommend a hotel with classical style such as the Plaza Athenèe or le Meurice. You%26#39;ve only to choose: Plaza Athenèe is the most elegant hotel in Paris by miles, and also one of the most expensive, le Meurice is a little cheaper and of a sober elegance.

I wish you a wonderful stay in the magical Paris!

There are two excellent, modereately priced restaurants just a block away from Le Meurice. Both are on the rue Mont-Thabor: Le Soufflé (which offers more than souffle%26#39;s, although that%26#39;s the house specialty) and L%26#39;Ardoise. On the Place du Marché rue St-Honoré is Le Pain Quotidien, a delightful bakery/café that serves breakfast, lunch, and is open until 7 p.m.

Hotel Meurice would be the best choice considering what you are looking for. Ask for a room with views of Tuileries garden.

An other good restaurant right there is Brasserie Flottes rue Cambon.

Meurice has been recently renovated and it is beautiful.

Nothing can beat the Plaza Athenee ! Now to be honest, I%26#39;ve never stayed at the George V, but I can attest to the lovely flowers, rooms and staff at Plaza Athenee. Service is incredible, the rooms are beautiful, all we%26#39;ve stayed in had pleasant views. Not quite as close to shopping as George V. Plaza Athenee has the beauty I would think women in particular would appreciate.

I disagree about the rooms at George V not being French in style. Check out the candid photos posted by myself and others on the review for George V.

Speaking for myself, George V is the best hotel I have ever stayed in, and consistently rated as one of the best in the world by Conde Nast. But let us know what you choose and how it goes! Enjoy Paris!

Have only been at some 5* hotels bars, but never stayed at any of these hotels.

Personally I don%26#39;t like the Georges 5 : too much gold and marble.

Have been to the Raphael%26#39;s bar and terrace and loved the place. They have suites with terrace and amazing view. You may check this hotel :

But I must say that even if I could afford this, I wouldn%26#39;t stay there. I prefer The Pavillon de la Reine, luxury hotel but with taste, not with ostentation; You may have a look:
