HI, we are leaving for Paris on 11/17 for the 1st time, no need to mention our excitement here. Looks like we will have snow/rain for the first couple of days in Paris, the strike might still be on...........
do you think we can still have fun there? We stay in 8th, 2 blocks away from Courcelles station , can%26#39;t imagine having to walk to everywhere?

You will have fun if you choose to!!! I know I would.
Take really good walking shoes and an umbrella.
You may have walk alot, or you may elect to sit in a warm cafe a bit longer and enjoy yourself there! Either way , have fun, strike or snow or whatever!

Srike is not a big deal, as lomg as you are not planning on Versailles, or Eurodisney. Paris is one of the best walking cities in the world. Most of the tourist sites are in a compact area, and you are not badly located. Enjoy. I return Sunday.

I have to admit, I%26#39;m a bit jealous about the thought of snow in Paris. I%26#39;ve just missed seeing that several times, as it usually is just a light dusting that lasts a few hours or maybe a day. It should make for beautiful pictures, and you won%26#39;t have any problem walking where you want to go if necessary. And I second the suggestion about lingerin in cafes - a perfect excuse for a chocolat viennois or vin chaud!

I can%26#39;t imagine anything happening in Paris which could keep me from having a good time. That city is really that great! Bring a warm coat and a muffler (people wear scarves there anyway). Boots are very popular there so if you have a pair, your feet will be warm and you will look stylish. Nearly every street in Paris has something interesting to see so see the areas where you are and, if there is difficulty getting to other areas, see them on your next trip to Paris. Really, my theory is the only thing that gets people to actually leave Paris is that they resolutely decide before leaving that there will be another trip to Paris in the near future. I also agree that many of the more popular destinations are within easy walking distance of each other so don%26#39;t worry about it. Just enjoy where ever you are and whatever you end up doing.

We leave Paris the day you arrive. The transit strike has been an inconvenience, but we have still had a great time. We have walked for hours every day, however today we decided to try the hop-on hop-off Batobus. This takes 45 minutes to travel from the Bastille to the Eiffel tower, and was a warm, dry, and scenic way to get around. 1 day is 12 euros, while 5 days is 17. There is also a hop-on hop-off bus that we didn%26#39;t try but many others did. On a positive note, the transit strike appeared to ease up a little today, with a few more buses and metro lines running, so you may not have to deal with it for long. Bring gloves and a hat and warm pants - it is very chilly when the wind blows!

Sorry, I meant to say %26#39;bato-boat%26#39; - there are several of them doing a continuous loop of the Seine

I am here in Paris now and with the strike-I walk everywhere-I love it here!
Peace-

Thank you all so much for making us feel much better, advise from experienced travellers can really comfort those not so experienced. Especially for those who are currently in Paris. I was thinking we should still be able to enjoy Paris but really wanted to hear from TAs, kind of to insure my feeling. I will bring my boots, scarf, hat, ear muff......., and umbrella too, we will be walking in the rain a lot, I guess.

I forgot to mention we are planning on Versail and Brugge in two different days. we can skip Versail if the there is no RER train, but we have to go to Burgge since the tickets are paid for, if TGV doesn%26#39;t run, do you think they will refund our ticket money? Oh, well, as said in prior post, the strike won%26#39;t last that long, right?
