rue Jacob

am planning to be in Paris early in April....when i was there three years ago, stayed at Les Marroniers and liked it a lot...and loved staying on Jacob.......would like the expert%26#39;s assessments of other hotels on this street....i remember there were at least half a dozen.....on prior trips (there have been many and i also worked in Paris many years ago at Societe Generale or SoGen as it is now called at the Boulevard Haussman branch) my husband and I had stayed in the first and although it was convenient i much preferred the 6 th......loved the fact that there were numerous charming bistrots closes by at the end of the day.....would be willing to stay in the 7th too but not too close to the Tour......liked the fact that Jacob was not touristy....also the Metro location was superb....

We thought of taking the Eurostar from London......gather this needs to be reserved in advance and that there is security as well......is it worth taking over the regular train?

Merci!

On rue Jacob (a great street indeed), you have la villa, the hotel Millesime, the Hotel d%26#39;Angleterre, the Hotel du Danube and if you go to rue des Saints Peres on the corner, there is Hotel des Saints Peres and ... cannot remember other names.

For travel by rail between London and Paris EUROSTAR is the %26quot;..regular train..%26quot; There are no other trains. With the openning of the new Eurostar station in London at Saint Pancras and the high-speed new rail lines on the British end, the travel time between LONDON-Saint Pancras and PARIS-Gare du Nord is down to 2:15-30...city center-to-city center. For the most part, security checks for Eurostar are minimal...but you should arrive 30 mins. prior to scheduled departure.

To secure the lowest, discounted fares, you really do need to reserve as far in advance as possible (120 daysmaximum). If you are only planning on a one-way London-to-Paris itinerary...you should also check for round-trip itineraries with a ficticious return date (toss away the return portion). The lowest, most heavily discounted fares tend to be for round-trip travel.

If there is any flexibility within your proposed itinerary, it may pay to %26#39;..tinker..%26#39; with different departure times amd days-of-the-week to find lower fares.

Re Eurostar Tickets.....what happens if we need to change our itinerary after tickets are purchased? Do they have a policy for changing dates.....and a price ++ for this....what about refunds?

This map might be useful if you want to stick to rue Jacob.

La Villa, that is also located rue Jacob, is very different than Les Marroniers. Nice modern hotel with a jazz club inside.

I like also the Bel Ami, 7-11 rue saint benoit

Looked at the Villa but not my style!!! Much prefer the more traditional, homey, antiquey places......which is why I liked Les Marroniers.....but am going to go thru the list of Jacob hotels and check them all out......would certainly be willing to stay on another street in the 6th ior 7th but want to be near the river, close to the Metro St. Germain or other really convenient stop.....someone has recommended La Bourdonnais in the 7th.....know anything about it?

We stayed at the hotel Millesime last April for the first time and were very happy with it. Rooms were a little larger than at other hotels and the staff were helpful and efficient. There is a small open area in the center of the first floor, a free internet terminal, and the breakfast that they served is IMO better than others with a bigger variety. We%26#39;ve stayed at the 2 Continents also on the Rue Jacob and I think the hotel Millesime is nicer and provides a better deal. Look at their tete-a-tete package on the reservations page.

YES...and it depends entirely on which category of ticket / fare you purchase. As you might expect, the lowest, most heavily discounted fares are for %26#39;..restricted..%26#39; advance-purchase tickets / fares.

If when Searching for fares for your proposed travel dates, you Click on the Fare Category at the top of the column....you will get the details of any restrictions.

  1. How about Hotel Edouard 7 : http://g.co/maps/xzqk2
Hotel Bel Ami is also a good choice : 2 minutes walk form metro station, in the heart of ST Germain
