Apartement near Eiffel or in Marias district

I have to choose between an apartment on Ave Suffren %26amp; Ave J Bouvard (close to Eiffel) OR an aparmtent on Rue Temple %26amp; Rue Rambuteaue (Marias district).

Both are euqally good in terms of amenities provided, size etc.

Is the one that is near Eiffel too touristy an area? I am thinking I can go out %26amp; enjoy the night/evening view by sitting on the green areas that are near this apt. which I can%26#39;t do if I am in Marias. Although that is not the main reason to choose an apt (sounds confusing). I know I am as confused as I can be.

Any thoughts?

Hello NorCalChe,

I%26#39;ll be staying in an apt off of Ave de Suffren in 2 weeks. My apt is bordering the 15th and the 7th. I%26#39;ve researched also apts on Rue Temple and granted it%26#39;s more central, I chose a not too touristy areas and more residential, therefore I chose the 15th eme%26gt;%26gt;Ave de Suffren.

As many have advised that this area is perfectly safe so if you want to go out at night and return home, you should be fine.

I%26#39;ve heard that Marais is lovely and have more %26#39;shops, resturants, bars, etc%26#39; to choose from, but I%26#39;ve also heard depending on where you are staying it can get loud. Also Rue Temple( i think) is a prettly long street, but if you have the exact address, more %26#39;seasoned%26#39; TA-ers could provide you with more information. BTW the address I will be staying is 22 Ave de Suffren.

I hope this helps!

Oh by the way if you search for Ave (de) Suffren and Rue Temple you%26#39;ll find alot of information on these areas!

Well, if you are staying in the winter time, you won%26#39;t do much sitting in the champs de Mars anyway, as it is freezing cold right now.

The Marais gets my vote, much more historic, beautiful buildings, nicer to go out at night. Also , depending where in the Marais, the metro should be easier.

The avenue de Suffren is quite dull at night, i was there the other night, two brasseries were open, one of them overpriced so not my best choice.

Dear NorCalChe:

The area around the Eiffel Tower is not touristy, but more residential. I am a big fan of the Marais, and would chose to stay there. I find it more interesting than the area around the Eiffel Tower, not to say that area is not lovely, it is. However, it is a bit of a hike to the sights. There is a lovely little park in the Marais, as well as the park in the center of the Place des Voges, so you can sit in green areas there, too.

Bon chance and bon voyage!

I booked the Marias apt. The actual address is 12 rue Pecquay. Talked to the rental agency %26amp; they recommended this one too over the Suffren. Plus it is bigger too.

I am headed to Paris in May-June after a 12 day trip to Switzerland.

Thanks for your help.

On the contrary, the area around Eiffel is not so touristy at all. Personally, I always look to stay in the 1, 2, 3, 4 districts in central and walking distance to almost everything I want to visit. The area around Eiffel is more residential in my opinion.

I just arrived in Paris today and the apartment we rented a block from Le Louvre in the 1st did not work out as it did not have working tv, internet, or phone as promised so we%26#39;re staying with his parents in the 10th for now until the back-up studio in the 3rd Rambuteau area is ready .

I would highly recommend staying the the marais district to easily access most places since there is a transportation strike, so only 10% working metro, bus, and trains. I%26#39;ve never seen so much traffic, people riding bicycles, and walking out of the 8 times I%26#39;ve been to Paris. The strike may be over by the time you visit, but still I would hands down pick the marais.

Marais for sure. We stayed on Rue des Blancs Manteaux. Great area. Rue Rambuteau has all that you will need for amenities for your apartment, ie grocer patisserie.

Metro stop at rue rambuteau and short walk to hotel de ville for the #1 line

amy, would you care to share the name of the service you used to rent the disappointing apartment? It would be a great help to a lot of us to know who NOT to use.

Merci beaucoup!

I was to be their first tenant... so perhaps they will have the phone, internet, tv working by the next. However, I didn%26#39;t like the studio too much as it doesn%26#39;t have much light and faces directly to another window of a neighbor. The location was great though.
