Has anyone done this route/know how long it should take (assuming I%26#39;m driving reasonably fast) - The internet route planners say it should take just a little over 3 hours (as do Beaune Tourist info) but just wandering if anyone else thinks that%26#39;s right? Also, I am arriving on a Friday afternoon and wandered if the route is prone to suffering from heavy rush hour traffic and, if so, how much longer it would be likely to take. I appreciate that there is no definate answer to this but any thoughts would be welcomed? Thank you

Three hours is about right -- and I would add an additional half hour or so for rush hour. The couple we were travelling with made it from CDG to Dijon in just over three hours, mid day, mid week.

I assume from this latest post that you have decided to drive rather than take the train. I think you will enjoy having a car in Burgundy -- there are a lot of charming small towns, cathedrals, Roman ruins, markets, etc., which are much easier to access with a car.

Did the route in reverse in July, Beaune to CDG. About three hours is a good guess, We made a day out of it and stopped in Fountainbleau for a visit and lunch. For us it was a Monday. hit the Periph around 5 and it was stop and go all the way to CDG, but not too bad.

Thanks again. I have not decided yet whether to drive or take the train - am just trying to find out which is the easiest way to get there realy before deciding. I do not think I will actually use the car once I arrive as we%26#39;re only going for 2 days and have a fair bit planned in Beaune for those days (I%26#39;m not sure the amount of fab wine on offer will be terribly conducive to driving anyway!) I agree though, it%26#39;s allways nice to havae a car there to look around and come and go as you please. Really appreciate your help!

Hi,
Made that journey a few years back on a friday afternoon approx 3 hours is about right.
The Périphérique is crazy at that time so be warned, after that bit of the journey it was fairly straight forward.
If you are not using the car in Beaune then I would suss out an alternative.
Best of Luck

We recently did the trip from Paris to Beaune. For what it is worth my input would be; take the metro from CDG to Gare de Lyon - take the train to Dijon (just over 1 hour) and then either rent a car - there is a National/Avis/Budget car rental right in the train station - or hire a car to drive you to Beaune if you don%26#39;t want the rental car. The car trip from Dijon to Beaune is about half an hour. My thoughts are to stay as far away as possible from driving in and around Paris.

Picking up a rental car at CDG is a simple affair and so is exiting Paris for the approx 3 1/2 hour trip to Beaune.
I recommend you do not depart the airport via the normal route (south westerly using A1). Use the under utilised exit in the opposite direction (generally towards the east) using D212 which leads you to N2 and then N104, the Francilienne. Follow N104 easterly around the outskirts of Paris until reaching A6. Continue on A6 which takes you directly to Beaune.
This route should bypass all of the city traffic (though the Francilienne can back up at times).
Checking with either www.mappy.com or www.viamichelin.com should give you the particulars of each step but this is the fastest (and in my opinion the easiest) way to reach your destination.

I suggested a TT car from CDG on your other thread but I didn%26#39;t realize you are only staying 2 days. TT cars are out for such a short stay. If you haven%26#39;t too much already crammed in, think about %26quot;dinner on the diner, nothing could be finer%26quot;, which is not as nice on the TGV as your mind%26#39;s eye will see it but still a fun thing to do. If I go to Heaven when I die, I%26#39;m going to get there on a dining car of the (old - pre TGV) French railroad. I%26#39;m sure that%26#39;s how it%26#39;s done.

I visit Beaune a couple of times a year %26amp; have used both the train %26amp; driven from cdg. I think its less stressful to take the tgv, then I hire a car from europcar in Beaune to get around the vineyards %26amp; villages
