CDG Airport to Eiffel Tower and Back

I have a 5 hour layover in Paris, and since I have never been, I would like to at least take a taxi or bus ride to the Tower for some phots, then return back to CDG Airport in time to go through customs and board my next flight. Is this possible in that period of time? And if so, what is the best way to do this (Best does not necessarily mean cheapest....just want to make sure I have ample time to get back through the airport for my next flight).

I appreciate any and all comments.

Thanks,

RMC

Hi

In case you don%26#39;t get a more specific response to your question I just wanted to mention this info:

If you are under Paris Forum,

look at the top of the screen, there is a posting titled %26quot;Read this first: Paris FAQ%26#39;s%26quot;

It gives some very good info about how to figure out transportation to and from the airport.

Thank you. I will definitely check into that.

It%26#39;s a question of TIME...and you simply don%26#39;t have enough to do more than arrive in Paris...look at the Eiffel Tower from a distance before IMMEDIATELY returning to CDG. You need AT LEAST five(5) hours just to pass through arrival formalities at CDG, make your way to the RER %26#39;B%26#39; train and take inot Paris....then take it back to CDG, check-in with your airline, clear airport security and make your way to your outbound flight%26#39;s departure gate. This assumes that your luggage will be checked directly through from your inbound to your outbound flights.

I wouldn%26#39;t even do it, one wildcat strike and you are SOL.

Is there anyway you could change your flights to give you at least a 8 hour layover?

|||

I%26#39;m sorry, but I agree with Joan and KDK - even if you spring for a taxi, it would take only one accident on the highway to tie up the traffic and potentially cause you to miss your onward flight (or, at a minimum, cause you a great deal of stress).

I don%26#39;t quite agree with other posts. I had a 4 hour layover two weeks ago and was debating with myself to go to the center or not. Finally I stayed at the airport but very much regretted when I saw that I very speedily entered the departure lounge after all formalities and then spent 3.5 hours waiting there, which is more than plenty for a round-trip to the center.

My suggestion: see when you%26#39;re out of arrivals, then check-in for onward flight, if you aren%26#39;t already. Now that you have your onward boarding pass in hand, check the time. If you have more than 4 hours, you have plenty of time. You%26#39;ll only have to pass one more security check when returning which should in no case take more than 30 to 40 minutes of wait and then no more time-reserves needed.

Proceed to the RER railway station and check the times of RER line B to Paris center. Get yourself a full day transport pass %26quot;mobilis%26quot; including the outer zones needed for the airport. Now take the RER B to Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, there change to RER C and get out at Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel. The whole trip shouldn%26#39;t take more than 50 minutes and the stop where you change lines happens to be exactly at the landmark Notre-Dame cathedral, just in case you have some time left when returning.

Stick to RER and Metro in any case, using buses or even taxis has the risk of delays due to traffic or accidents.

You%26#39;ll want to keep an eye on the time throughout the trip and once you discover that there is just two hours left for your take-off, you should be on your way back, or, in the unfortunate case you haven%26#39;t arrived, turn around immediately. If you feel time will be short, just stay at Notre-Dame and check out the cathedral and Seine river, no need to change trains there, you can get back to CDG on RER B directly.

I think you should go for it, anything is better than sitting around for endless hours at an airport, even just going around parisian public transport!

Good luck!

Actually, if your onward trip is towards the US, it might take longer for security. But if onward is within EU, you will be fine getting back to CDG 45-60 min before take-off, already holding boarding pass. My onward flight was to Japan and I was through control within 15 minutes.

Nemorino, according to your plan she should %26quot; keep an eye on her time and once there is just two hours left she should be on her way back in%26quot;

But it will take her almost an hour travel each way ( RER and then metro to Eiffel Tower, you estimated at 50 minutes, keep in mind this person most likely will take more then 5 minutes to find her connections as it is FIRST TIME there!

Anyways, seems like a lot of hassle to just barely make it in time to SEE the Effiel Tower, not even go up it,, but your Notre Dame idea is a bit more realistic at least she can just get out at St Michel, walk around a bit and jump back on RER.

I absolutely agree with you that RER is more reliable then taxi in terms of not getting stuck in traffic, etc. but still, anything can happen , and having such a tiny window of time is playing with fire. Might work, might not.

Carty11 you see , you should have allowed yourself some time in Paris, even a longer layover might have worked( although I am a bit fan of the two week layovers myself, LOL )

Someone suggested that you check in for your next flight, making sure that you have at least 4 hours after your luggage has been taken and boarding pass has been issued, etc. Maybe all airlines are different, but we tried to do something similar in another city and were told that we could not check in until 3 hours before the flight. That really blew our plans. I hope everything works out for you, but I just didn%26#39;t want you to rely on that option because it might not work.
