Family of 5 in Paris, care to share your ideas?

Paris, here we come! We%26#39;re looking at November this year and with 3 kids under 10 and hundreds of forums %26amp; hotels I%26#39;ve researched online - can%26#39;t seem to find the right one.

I want to know if the hotels in Paris would allow 5 people in 1 room, 2 of them are under 8 so they%26#39;re still small. Are the hotels pretty strict?????

We want to just enjoy our visit yet be practical and stay within our budget. We%26#39;re limited to $100 - $150/night and looking at apartments or hotels that%26#39;s convenient enough especially for the kids to travel/walk to our destinations.

Thank you for all your recommendations and sharing your experience on making our trip enjoyable!

hotels in Europe don%26#39;t have huge rooms with two double beds like they do in the states -- you will have a hard time finding a quad room (although there are some of those) and a near impossible job finding a room that will take 5 -- there would be no place in most to put that 5th bed -- you might search for a quad and then ask about an additional child

your budget is VERY tiny for Paris -- you might do better looking for an apartment -- check out VRBO which is rental by owner -- you aren%26#39;t going to get anything very nice for that amount, but you might find something big enough -- and think about location near a nice park since Paris parks usually have nice play areas for kids -- the Luxembourg Gardens has particularly nice playgrounds for kids -- but almost every park has something

Yes, for your budget( is that American dollars or Canadian dollars,or Australian dollars???) ( post in euros , actually think in euros it will help you in long run) , you definately should look for an apartment, plus it is great having a kitchen with kids, even if you never cook a meal, just nice for snacks and juice in fridge etc.

I%26#39;ve been trawling the net for accommodation myself so I know how frustrating it can be %26amp; what a steep learning curve you%26#39;ve had!

I agree with the other replies... You should get an apartment, you%26#39;ll have more space than in a hotel room, you%26#39;ll have a kitchenette %26amp; there%26#39;s ususally a sofa bed in the lounge for 2 of the children - you may even find something with a bunk bed arrangements...

You may also want to reassess your budget - it%26#39;d be a shame if you accomm was so disappointing that it tainted your Parisian experience!

These sites hepled me:

www.nyhabitat.com

www.ahparis.com

www.ilparisapartments.com - Whilst the accomm I booked isn%26#39;t thru these people, Porter was very helpful %26amp; informative.

www.limaparis.com (for 7+ night stays only)

Check out the google Paris maps to check how near to a Metro stn your accomm will be... Tired legs at the end of the day don%26#39;t want to have to walk too far!

If you find accomm in a handy arrondissement (borough) you will reduce travel distance. We%26#39;re staying in Arr 1 (on the right bank) but I%26#39;ve been told that the left bank (altho more expensive) is the area most desired. The Eiffel Tower is in Arr 15, the Louvre in Arr 1, Notre Dame in Arr 4... best to stay closer than in say Arr 20, 17, 13 for example. Google yourself a map of Paris %26amp; you%26#39;ll understand what I mean... It took me forever to work out the arrondissements!!

All the tourits haunts aren%26#39;t right next door to each other. You%26#39;ll be walking/travelling so you%26#39;d be best to plan your day ahead!

Good luck!

R :)

Umm Sydoz,, the left bank is not really more exspensive then the right at all, in fact some of the most exspensive hotels right bank, including the 1st where you are staying. There is actually alot of budget-moderate places left bank.

I think if one stays in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th they can in fact walk to alot of sites. Especially if you stay in the 4th 5th or 6th. Notre Dame, Lourve( which is in 1st but easy to walk to from other arr. as you just cross a bridge to get on right bank) St Chapelle, Cluny Museum , Orsay, etc etc..

I personally like being very central as I am a great walker, but realize with all the good transport options available there is almost no where that wouldn%26#39;t be doable.

Thanks. I really appreciate all your suggestions. My budget is american dollars but I guess I have to stretch it a bit. I

also noticed that there is a charge per person on apartments, are there exceptions for kids. do we pick up the keys from the owner when we get there?

I also saw some apartments at bercy, want to know how safe and how close to central?

|||

Yoru budget in Euros is 70 to 105 euros. For the five of you. Not impossible. Lets look around.

|||

Ok , went on VRBO( vacation apartments by owner ) website( check it out) and found a small plain one bedroom that DOES sleep five,, listing number 5586. It appears available from the 21st of nov . onward. The weekly charge was reasonable, but there is additional charge for extra persons, but I would contact them directly to see if that applies to your kids.

The location is excellant, very central, but as I said it is not fancy, but everyone has a bed, and there is a tiny kitchen, you can save lots of money by giving kids yogurt and muffins in the morning instead of eating out.

Anyways, you need to check out VRBO yourself ,, you know your dates. Aim for 1st, 4th, 5th , 6th or even 7th arrondissmonts. Others are fine too, but those are my faves for being somewhat central. As another poster said, near Luxembourg gardens is good for kids too.( that is in 5 th I think)

I think too that your budget is a bit short regarding the number of people (5).

You can go in this website asweill http://paris.craigslist.org/vac/

It is a particular to particular site.

You can go in VRBO aswell.

Or you have the possibility to book through some agency www.parisattitude.com or www.paristay.com or www.lodgis.com but you will have to pay a agency fee (around 25% of the total rent).

Have fun in Paris

You could check out the Citadines Aparthotels, which are located across the city, they have one and some two bedroomed apartments, which include kitchenette.

The one bedroom may even suit a family of 5, as they have either a sofabed in living area or a bed which pulls out from under the sofa. Plus they offer the option of paying for an extra bed for about 25 euros.

You can book from their website www.citadines.com, but you may get a cheaper price if you %26quot;Google%26quot; %26quot;Citadines+Paris%26quot; .

Plus they have reception desks, so no worrying about collecting keys from agencies, etc.

My husband and I are staying in the 15th, about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Eiffel Tower for 81Euro/night (roughly $120 at current conversion rate) at the Citea Paris Tour Eiffel... however, this is a studio and only sleeps two. I agree with a previous poster, $150/night might not be doable for 5 people, even if 2 of them are small. Keep shopping, but Paris is expensive.
