I%26#39;m off to France in May 2008 and want to go up to Digne from Nice, using public transport. I have the choice of doing Digne + Manosque in one day, staying in Manosque overnight, and then going on to St Remy for the second half of my holiday (and I%26#39;ve aware that will be quite a day%26#39;s travelling, Manosque to St Remy), or doing Digne as a day trip and going back to Nice and getting to St Remy by unadventurous methods (TGV to Avignon, then bus). What do you all think?

C%26#39;mon guys this is a nice meaty problem here, I thought you%26#39;d all jump in! Make a change from %26#39;where shall I stay%26#39; and %26#39;will I get mugged in the backstreets of Cap Ferrat?%26#39;

I think you should hire a car ! If you go to Digne and Manosque buses will bring you down the Durance valley, it%26#39;s not special, barring Les Penitents at Mees, amazing rocks, you see them from the motorway. I imagine services will be into Aix and possibly Cavaillon, both are further from St Remy than Avignon. The train from Nice to Avignon is a stopping train, it becomes tgv at Aix.
Consider the old train (Les Pins ?) Nice to Digne fabulous scenery.
If you hire a car you could have an amzing drive. Pick up Nice drop off next day Avignon !
Hope this is of some help
Enjoy Provence
