Bus-route guide

Does anyone know where to find a helpful guide I spotted once in Paris - a street-by-street guide to all the bus routes in the city? Should I look for one in FNAC or will I find one chez un buraliste?

Hi BR

I bought a Bus guide at a street stall that showed each route and its stops. I think the RATP site has an online bus map somewhere.

The most useful map of the city available is the %26quot;Le petit parisien%26quot; from map maker L%26#39;Indispensable:

http://tinyurl.com/36saye

It provides three maps of each arrondissement, a full indexed street map, a detailed Metro map showing the exact locations of all the stations, and a detailed bus map showing the exact route and location of the stops. This is important because Paris is nearly all one-way streets. An example would be, many maps show line-38 running on blvd Sebastopol but in reality, only the north-bound route does. The south-bound route is blocks away on rue du Renard.

There%26#39;s also a great interactive map on the RATP website:

http://www.ratp.info/orienter/cv/cartebus.php

that allows you to click on a route, a line number or bus stop and see the stops and connections. You can also use it for Metro, RER and night bus by selecting them from the palate on the upper left.

Pocket bus guide %26quot;Le Bus.%26quot; Blue booklet, available at tourist shops.

This probably isn%26#39;t what you%26#39;re looking for, but my favorite map book is the Plan de Paris par Arrondissement. You can get it on Amazon.com (not sure if they have it a Fnac or elsewhere). It has a pull-out bus map and metro map.

Perhaps the most frequently found mapbooks at local news kiosks and shops will be the various editions from L%26#39; INDISPENSABLE (cops, taxi drivers, hotel front desks, local residents, etc). The trouble is that not every mapbook they publish will be available at every sales location...or that once presented with a selection, you%26#39;ll remember which book you wanted to begin with (memory is often sieve-like).

Two L%26#39; INDISPENSABLE compact mapbooks that are most useful for trying to figure out and use the Paris public bus system are--

%26#39;..BUS--Metro, Bus---Paris..%26#39; (ISBN: 2-7072-0314-9)

massin.fr/…

%26#39;..Le BUS PARISIEN..%26#39; (ISBN: 2-7072-0454-4)

KDK, they%26#39;re fine but if someone is also using the Metro and RER, the %26quot;le petit%26quot; covers it all and lots more.

Well, all I can say is we carry the petit parisien everywhere we go and they%26#39;re completely worn out every 4 months or so. We%26#39;ve tried all the others including KDK%26#39;s suggestions and we settled on the le petit for it%26#39;s ACTUAL usefulness. We prefer to carry only one map.

Thanks for your bus-guide tips, everyone. I%26#39;m a sucker for any Paris guide and will pick up Le Petit Parisien as soon as I arrive in Paris next month. Paris par Arondissement has served me perfectly well for some time, but being able to get precise stops will be useful.

Glad you like the L%26#39;Indispensable %26quot;Le Petit Parisien%26quot; and find it useful for yourself. I%26#39;ve looked at it and thought that it turned what are essentially two(2) systems (Metro/RER and Bus) unnecesarily into three(3) and did none proper service. In actual use, I%26#39;ve preferred the %26#39;..Le Bus Parisian..%26#39; for either system..but especially buses...and a better mapbook all %26#39;round...so I guess %26quot;..ACTUAL usefullness..%26quot; will be relative.

In any event, the OP now has three(3) choice to select from at the newstand and perhaps judge for themselves which %26#39;..feels..%26#39; bst to them.

found it online at %26quot;easygoing.com%26quot; got it before my last trip over ... great book! I was there for the strike... so the bus maps where really used!!

%26quot;Le Petit Parisien%26quot;

That%26#39;s the one I%26#39;m using, as well.
