We%26#39;re first timers to paris and are planning to stay in the 6th when we go next September. Are there advantages/disadvantages in selecting a hotel on the North side of Boulevard St Germain versus the South Side? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Do you mean the %26#39;odd-numbered%26#39; side versus the %26#39;even-numbered%26#39; side..? It%26#39;s a curious question to me...

To clarify, the neighborhood to the north of Boulevard St Germain which is closer to the Seine than that area to the South of the Boulevard which is further from the Seine but closer to Jardin du luxembourg. From maps, the Boulevard St Germain seems to be a dividing line. Hope this helps.

In five trips to Paris we have always stayed at a hotel on the rue Jacob which is approx two blocks in one direction to the Seine, and one block in the other direction to the Blvd St Germain and Les Deux Magots. This has always seemed ideal to me. We can walk to pretty much everything of interest on a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc visit and it helps being close to both the river and St Germain so that it is easier to find your way back to your hotel. BTW, look at the deals at the Hotel Millesime.

I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find that there is all that much difference - I would just go with whichever hotel you like best.

Thanks, good advice from you both. We%26#39;re just having a tough time picking a hotel...
