Christmas Decorations

I will be spending two short days in Nice in mid-December. I was wondering if there were any holiday decorations of note that I should see while I am there.

I fear you will find it all very low key after New York!

Around Place Massena, the large area that bridges the Old Town with the modern city centre, you will find the Christmas Village - a temporary group of wooden chalet-type shops selling Christmassy things and food/drinks. There%26#39;s also a big Ferris wheel and an outdoor ice-skating rink. There is often a %26#39;Christmas wood%26#39; set up - fir trees covered in white stuff (blue one year) to wander around, there is usually a stage and some entertainment for the children taking place. You might find Father Christmas hanging around (with a photographer - xx euros a photo, thank you)

In the Old Town, the %26#39;living%26#39; crib will be set up in front of Cathedral Rossetti, but it might not be inplace mid-December. There will be a few Christmas lights and may be some red carpet about. A few streets have Christmas lights slung across and you will find stuffed santas at the top of palm trees and hanging off a few balconies. The French also seem quite fond of those strands of silver foil hanging off trees (lametta?)

On the whole, it%26#39;s a bit lame in my humble opinion, as I quite like a lot of fuss and decorations. On the other hand it can often be a welcome break from %26#39;all the commercialism%26#39;. We go to Nice just before Christmas most years and every time I promise myself a trip to New York to see %26#39;proper%26#39; decorations.

There%26#39;s a new thing to try in Nice this December - the lunaparc at the Acropolis, an indoor fairground (perfect if you have children and the weather is foul) not sure how Christmassy it might be though.

best wishes

Thank you!

I have never been to Nice and I am in the process of researching my trip there. Any other tips for %26quot;must-sees%26quot;? I will only be there 2 full days.

Thanks again!

Well, the biggest %26#39;must-see%26#39; for me would be exploring the Old Town and the Flower/food market in the Cours Saleya.

A walk up the Chateau Hill to for the views

Stroll along the Prom

Such a short time, I usually recommend the hopon hopoff tour bus with commentary, it%26#39;s only a couple of hours but on a sunny day, it%26#39;s very enjoyable and some good photo ops.

Maybe the modern art museum, MAMAC at the back of the Old Town, go to the very top for the views too.

Christmas Village and ice-skating and big wheel

Some good meals out, Le Tire Bouchon in the evening, maybe Jouni de La Reserve past the Port for lunch or La Cambuse in the Cours for lunch or evening.

Spot of shopping up rue Paradis
