Hi,
I am in Paris for a few days from 9th Jan and hope to pay a visit to Versailles.
Can anyone advise me on the easiest way to get there from my hotel at 44 Rue Hamelin Paris 75016?
Many thanks.

we did it years ago by train - left either from the gare de nord or a station nearby - ask at your hotel
cost a fraction of the price of a tour bur and the staion is about 10 mins walk from the palace

Make you way from the HÔTEL ÉLYSÉES UNION (3-star)--44 rue de l%26#39;Amiral Hamelin (btwn: Ave. Kléber %26amp; rue Galilee) 75016, Metro: Boissiere--(http://www.elysees-union.com/) to the RER %26#39;C%26#39; ligne at CHAPMP de MARS-TOUR EIFFEL and simply take the RER %26#39;C-5%26#39; ligne train (heading in the direction of Versailles-Rive Gauche...any train with a %26#39;..V xxx..%26#39; designation) to the end-of-the-line, at VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche station (approx 26 mins.--5,60€ r.t.)...then a pleasant ten(10) minute stroll from the station up to the gates of Chateau de Versailles (closed Mondays).

Excellent - thanks KDKSAIL
This place is great isn%26#39;t it!

There%26#39;re no %26#39;..tricks..%26#39; to this trip. It%26#39;s about as simple as it gets for daytrips from Paris.....only....there are three(3) different RER %26#39;C%26#39; lignes (%26#39;C-1%26#39; to Pontoise %26#39;C-5%26#39; to Versailles-Rive Gauche %26amp; %26#39;C-7%26#39; to Saint Quentin-Yvelines) that branch off from the CHAMP de MARS-TOUR EIFFEL station...so make sure that the train you take is heading in the direction of VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche....with a %26#39;..V xxx.%26#39; train number. For the return...any train back from Versailles will take you back to CHAMP de MARS-TOUR EIFFEL

Versailles is only 12 miles outside of Paris. As other posts have suggested, the train will get you there in short time.

and you%26#39;d have to be a really slow walker for it to be a 10 minute walk! then again, I walk at NYC/Paris speed... maybe on the way back....

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;and you%26#39;d have to be a really slow walker for it to be a 10 minute walk! then again, I walk at NYC/Paris speed... maybe on the way back....%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
It%26#39;s not so much the distance...but rather the stops you%26#39;re likely to make along the way to put camera to face and click. Do this on a sidewalk in mid-town Manhattan...and next thing ya%26#39; know,...you%26#39;re askin%26#39; your dry cleaner if they can get the ground-in stains from shoe-prints off the back of your coat.
