Hello:
I have shortlisted my apartment search to 2:
the first in in the 9th arrondissement, close to the Anvers metro
the second is in the 12th arrondissement, close to Gare de Lyon metro
Is anyone familiar with these neighborhoods? I do not want to stay in very touristy areas (such as Marais, Latin Quarter, etc), but am looking for an attractive area that has a good selection of cafes, restaurants, patisseries, etc. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

We stayed in the 9th
near the Galleries Lafayette %26amp; Printemps.
The Roisy Bus was handy to take to/from the airport - dropping off @ Opera.
Lots of shops %26amp; restaurants, and the metro was in front of our hotel.

Hello DowntownMinneapolis:
What metro were you close to in the 9th?
Is anyone familiar with the area around the 12th around Gare de Lyon?
|||
I vote for the ninth, just a nicer area in my opinion.
|||
The 9th is nice but not particulary at metro Anvers and near Barbes Rochechouart.
I would give the gare de Lyon my vote. Close to metro line 14 the fastest and metro 1 . Many cafes and restaurants around there and of course beautiful train bleu in gare itself.
Also good choice of buses there.

I vote with la_photographe. The two areas are a world apart. Among other things, the crowds headed for Sacré Coeur and trashy souvenir stores make it one of my least favorite neighborhoods in the city. I realize your candidate apartment is south of Bvd de Rochechouart but I still would put it at the bottom of my list if you have options like the 12th Arr. Access to transportation alone is enough reason to avoid the area around Anvers.

I too would go with La photographe and metromole. The 12th has quite a bit to offer as well as having excellent transport links. Plenty of Cafe%26#39;s and restaurants, the Canal St. Martin, the Jardin Le Plantes (where you can also pick up the Batobus). It is not especially touristy unless there is a major event going on at the Palais De Omnisport Bercy which is just around the corner from the Gare De Lyon.

Another vote for the 12th which is my stomping ground. The area around Gare de Lyon is for the most part nice and as others have mentioned you have great metro access . Dont forget the extensive bus network as well.

We stayed at the Millennium Opera hotel on Hausmann in the 9th - and the metro stop I do believe was the Richellieu Drouot. It%26#39;s a stop for two different lines and it was right in front of the thoel.

Thank you everyone for the great information! Much appreciated.
I think we will stay in the 12th this time round.
