Opera vs Latin Quarter

My husband and me are going to Paris for 4 days at the beginning of January. We can%26#39;t decide either to stay in Opera-Madeleine area or Latin Quarter.

It is our first time to Paris, and we would like somewhere central, with good public transport connections, lively with some animation at night, not overpriced restaurants, etc.

I have been told that Opera area is the best for a first time visitor but I think Latin Quarter is more what we are looking for. Could you please, help me in our decision?

We don%26#39;t need a 5 star hotel, somewhere clean and decent is enough (Our budget is 60-80€ per night)

Thank you

I agree that the Latin Quarter would fit your needs, the food options are better (IMO), and less pricey. The Hotel Diana may fot your needs and is in your price bracket.

October was my first time in Paris. Stayed in the 6er (Latin Quarter). Absolutely loved it. So many little streets going no where in particular; you could spend hours or days wandering along them. Metro will take you anywhere.

For transportation, Madeleine-Opera is one of the best areas in Paris. Latin quarter is lively and attracts a lot of younger tourists. It has many cheap restaurants.

There is a hotel called Madeleine Opera that still costs under 80 Euros but it could be the only one left.

I think technically the 6th is not the %26quot;Latin Quarter%26quot; rather then it is St Germain area, and I love that area, I think the 5th( Latin Quarter) or 6th( St Germain des Pres) is ideal for first time visitors, very central, and lots of inespensive cafes to eat .

Your budget is 2 star at best, BUT, there are some very nice decent two stars available.

Try looking for posts on this site( there are hundreds I am sure) for %26quot; budget hotels%26quot; , just type in search box.

I stayed at Hotel Des MInes once and it may be within your budget, but there are many others.

Thank you all for your help.

I think we%26#39;re going to choose the Latin Quarter.I think somewhere near the Sorbonne, so close to the river and Notre Dame will be very romantic.

I have found some hotels on the area which are not expensive. I%26#39;m going to search now for the reviews..

I have also mailed hotel Diana(thank you for the recommendation it seems to be a very nice place with good reviews).I%26#39;m waiting for their answer.
