Where is a good place to stay. We were looking at Villefranche sur Mer, but heard that it%26#39;a little remote and quiet and that the beach is rocky. A friend told us to stay at Best Western Cristal, Cannes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Before trying to answer, wonder if you could give few more details like :
When you are planning to travel
How long you are going for
What you are planning to do
What sort of hotel and facilities you want
Thanks!

Hi,
Can I reccommend you rent an apartment whilst in Cannes? We%26#39;ve just returned from a week in a tiny but gorgeous little apartment in the old town (Le Suquet) and I think it really shows you what Cannes life is like - away from the 5 star hotels. Our French neighbours were delightful and, because of the tiny streets, no cars and bikes zooming past all night. Perfect!
Enjoy!!!

Hi. I live in Cannes and can help if you let me know what you are looking for in terms of quality and price.
Villefranche is very beautiful and quaint but the beach is a little rocky and it is relatively quiet. However, you can get on the train easily from there and get to many places quickly and easily - including Cannes, Monaco, Nice, etc.
If you are looking for somewhere more lively then Cannes is a good option (as is Nice). Cannes is not cheap and there are a wide variety of places. Depending on how long you are going to be around, staying in an apartment can be a great idea. There are some great sites that have those on offer - email me if you want some suggestions as I cannot post the names here!

I%26#39;m travelling to Cannes this July. I%26#39;m familiar with Cannes as I spent my summers with Grandma. This will be the first time I am going back since my childhood. My two teenage children are travelling with us as well. Any suggestions on an inexpensive hotel, close to the Croisette. I%26#39;m trying to keep our hotel costs down since my daughter is a shopaholic. Is the open market still there? How about the kiosks on the croisette that used to sell beignets? Oh how I miss those! Any hep would be much appreciated :)

Beaulieu is very nice and has a good beach. Further east, I love both Hyeres and Cassis.

Hyères and Cassis would actually be west of Cannes, not east-- both a bit far for someone who wants to stay in Cannes.
You might check out the Hotel California%26#39;s [sic] in Cannes; it gets good reviews on the Fodor travel site. Several discount outfits offer good rates...or so they say.

Hi there,
Re your hotel, not too sure of your budget or which dates you are thinking of(rates generally go up around mid July) but would recommend the Hotel de Provence, the Moliere or the Canberra .All three of these are 2 minutes walk to the Croisette in a nice central area and prices are generally reasonable .
(small caveat;not too sure what will happen to Canberra prices when it reopens after what looks to be a fairly extensive refurbishment). Deals can sometimes be had at the Best Western properties like the Mondial and the Cristal if you check some of the hotel comparison sites too.
Another suggestion is to rent an apartment which might work out good value if there are 4 of you.
The open market ( Gambetta )is still there although the area round it has gone more upmarket in the last year or so. The fruit and veg market at Forville is still there too and the bric a brac market by the port at weekends. The kiosks on the Croisette are going strong but have acquired quite a corporate look now.
We%26#39;ve only been going to Cannes for the last 4 years or so and notice some changes, so sure you%26#39;ll find lots !
Hope you have a great time
