Hi all, im hoping i can get some advice on what i am thinking
Im travelling to Europe for the first time in April 08 for 3 months,
im spending 5 days in Paris and 3 in Normandy then 3 in the Loire Valley before flying to spain for 2 weeks , after Barcelona i plan to
get a train to provencve then the riviera before heading over to Italy.
My ques is i have 6 days allocated to the Provence/Riviera
part of the trip, im sure 3 days is enough for Nice (i will do day trip to
Monaco and have also heard Eze is worth the visit)
but im not sure if 3 days will be ok to see some of Provence,
I am planning to rent a car there, I have seen day trips (10 hours approx) you can do from Avignon, but ide prefer to rent a car for
3 day and do it myself, i was thinking to sleep in Avignon the whole time and see Avignon for a day then other places for the other 2 days., Is 3 days realistically enough? i realise i cant see everything.
but will it be really worth it for such a short time? also which is better for some sort of nightlife Avignon or Aix Provence?
thanks so much all, im open to all resposes,

I have been to the Provence/French Riviera area many times and just love it! it is one of the most beautiful areas in Europe.
I think your plan is very good and time it enough to get a good first impression:
3 days in Nice:
go to Monaco, Eze, Cap Ferrat, Villefranche on one day
and to St. Paul de Vence, Biot, Antibes on the other
3rd day enjoy Nice
on your way to Provence you could visit St. Tropez and Cannes
3 days in Provence: maybe staying in Aix-en-Provence is more central for exploring and is better located for going to Nice afterwards:
1 day Avignon and Luberon
2nd day Arles, Camargue, maybe Montpellier or Marseille
You will love it!!!

I%26#39;d pick St Remy over Aix.
Better check train options from Barcelona.

Don%26#39;t forget Pont du Gard near Remoulins, about 30 minutes from Avignon.

I have been to Provence/riviera for holidays five out of the last six years and have still not seen it all yet! However you can get through a lot in six days with a car. I would say Aix is better than Avignon by a mile in the evening, just to peoplewatch. Avignon is a great place for getting to other places but not as nice to stay in as Aix. Don%26#39;t under any circumstances miss Les Baux de Provence (world heritage site) and Arles, and I agree with the person who said you would be better off staying in St Remy, it%26#39;s small, beautiful and packed with good restos. Also relatively near the Pont du Gard, another must-see. Would try to spend some time in the Luberon, maybe seeing Roussillon, Gordes, l%26#39;Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaine de Vaucluse. Def a good idea to hire a car for that part of France.
