tile in languedoc

We are tile manufacturers. A french inlaw of ours says there is a lot of tile made in the Montpelier area. She, and a couple of other relatives are visiting the area in May and we would like to join them. I%26#39;ve done a web search looking for tile but haven%26#39;t come up with anything. Does anyone have any information? Also - which towns in the region are the most interesting to stay? I know about Carcassone and Avignon but outside of that, it%26#39;s all new to me. Thanks.

You will find many tiles of all kinds in Provence--don%26#39;t know about Montpelier. Try Googling for %26quot;tuiles.%26quot;

For towns, what are your interests? Carcassone is an 18th-century recreation of a medieval castle; Les Baux de Provence has the ruins of a real castle, with spectaculat views. Arles has fine Roman ruins, as does Nîmes. There are many, many other interesting towns and villages--perhaps you should get a copy of the Michelin Green Guides for Provence and for the Languedoc and see what appeals to you.

I don%26#39;t know about the Montpellier area but there is a tile manufacturer near Perpignan :

And I found this gouttieres-provence.com/tuiles-terre-cuite.p… which might be worth pursuing - the pictures are nice anyway! There are certainly a lot of tiles used in the area, but there don%26#39;t seem to be many manufacturers.

Hi

Firstly, Tuiles are roof tiles and carrelage are glazed floor / wall tiles.

I live near Montpellier, and don%26#39;t know of a manufacturer in the area, and can%26#39;t find one in the local phone book.

There are many retailers. Floor %26amp; roof tiles I have bought are normally Italian or Spanish. The three varieties of roof tiles on my house are Spanish.

Montpellier itself is a good base. It is close to the coast and has good road, rail and air links. The centre is vibrant with good nightlife, restaurants, etc.

Thank you everyone. I will continue my research and look for more leads here.

I spend a great deal of time in the general area of Montpellier and do not remember seeing or reading about tile production there. I have also check all of the reference materials I have for the area and find many retail locations but no mention of production.

It may be interesting for you to sometime visit the areas of France generally known for ceramics: Moustier, Quimper, or possibly Limoge and Gien.

In this general area of France, I think first time visitors would find Avignon or Arles most appealing; historically and architecturally. Montpellier has shopping, restaurants, and a few museums but overall, I do not consider it a compelling touristic destination.

Thanks for the names of those ceramics regions. I will google and see what I come up with. I will have to quiz our %26quot;in law%26quot; further to find out who, exactly, she was referring to in Montpelier. I have a great interest in art so naturally, Arles, Aix-en-Provence and region are of great interest to me. I visited Paris and northern France in the 80%26#39;s but never the south.
