I would go for Hotel Le Royal, on the Promenade, within 5/10 minute walk of 100%26#39;s of Cafes/bars/restaurants, just 10 metres from the sea, most clientele at this hotel are 40+,
spacious rooms,
Only 10 minute walk to the old town.

The area of Nice which is of main interest to tourists is small, less than a mile square. Almost all hotels are within this area so it doesn%26#39;t matter much where you stay. Mercure Marche aux Fleurs is well positioned, close to sea, flower market and old town but suffers from some traffic noise, as do many others. If you want a quiet, though less interesting, area you could have a look at the Excelsior.

Like all other hotels on the Promenade, there six lanes of traffic between Le Royal and the sea.

surely there is 6 lanes of traffic and more from other hotels to get to the sea,

Hotel Regence is in the centre and is pedestrianised. Close to sea and ten minute walk to market and old town. Very good, clean hotel, great staff with typical french breakfast of coffee with three different pastries, cheese and orange juice. Best hotel for the price I have ever stayed at.

I would recommend you look at renting an apartment look at the web site for citadines apartments. www.citadines.com
The prices are good , check out Citadines Nice Promenade.

Have a look at the accorhotels.com web site for the Mercure Promenade des Anglais. The hotel was renovated in 2006; rooms are comfortable, with great beds, and the sea-view rooms looking across to the Mediterranean are excellent. The streets nearby are filled with cafés and shops, and Vieux Nice is about a 10-minute walk away.

The Mercure Notre Dame is great, very handy for station, lovely rooms and rofftop terrace.
