only 14 days from Paris to Rome

Hi all,

This is my 1st trip with my bf in Europe. We are interested in a lot of places, but 14 days is really too short for us to visit all, provided that we do not want to rush. I have listed the places that we like %26amp; I know we need to give up some of them. Can anyone tell us which places are not to be missed and how long shall we stay in each place?

PLACES THAT WE WANT TO VISIT:

Paris (booked 3 nights @ Hotel des Arts)

Bordeaux (my bf loves red wine)

Lyon

Avignon

Marseille

Nice

Milan (is it on sale at that period?)

Bologna

Assisi

Vatican

Rome

Also, we will be arriving at Paris on Christmas Eve %26amp; leaving Rome on 6 Jan. Where shall we celebrate our new year? I guess we will be around Nice or Milan at that time.

We will travel by train from Paris to Rome, shall we buy euraill pass?

Thanks a lot!

Cheers.

Bordeaux ios a bit out of the way. With the time allowed, a more direct route, perhaps down through Burgundy, might be better.

Check with railsaver to see if passes are worthwhile.

As Francophool say, it might be difficult to include Bordeaux in your trip as it is very difficult to go from Bordeaux to Lyon by train. Basically, you would have to come back up to Paris, then go down to Lyon. There%26#39;s a train crossing France, but is *very* long (10 hours), whereas Bordeaux-Paris is 3 hours and Paris-Lyon, 2 (plus connection from Gare Montparnasse to gare de Lyon). In other words, you will lose a lot of time if you want to go to Bordeaux and Lyon.

Paris --%26gt; Lyon --%26gt; Avignon -- %26gt; Marseille (then --%26gt; Nice) makes more sense as they are on the same line and are no more than 2 hours apart each.

You can also consider Aix-en-Provence instead of Avignon or Marseille, or even skip Marseille altogher as you already have a lot planned.

Can%26#39;t say about Italy. Bon voyage!

Thanks so much for all your valuable advices. I%26#39;ve checked Burgundy %26amp; it%26#39;s really a nice place to go. I%26#39;m planning to book a day tour by Max Renau.

So our new plan is,

Paris (3 days)

Dijon (2)

Lyon (1)

Marseille

Nice

Florence

Rome

I think we cannot afford much time to stay in Italy now. :(

|||

I would skip Marseille (and poss Avignon) in favour of more time in Italy personally. Milan - don%26#39;t need much time there better places on way to Rome with time.

|||

I would skip Marseille too. Take a direct train to Nice and spend 2 days there to visit the lovely surroundings (Saint Paul de Vence,...).

You said your bf loves red wine. After Burgundy wine, he will enjoy Beaujolais and Côte du Rhône in Lyon! Ask me if you need any info or recommendations in Lyon.

|||

only-lyon, that%26#39;s great! What%26#39;s your recommendation for Lyon? We can spend 2 days there. however, are they close in new year? i think we will arrive there around 30 Dec. thanks!

There are a lot of little restaurants in Lyon, called %26quot;bouchons%26quot;, with food specialities (as quenelles for example) and nice local wines. Have a look at my previous recommendations on this forum. You can search with the blank space above, if you type %26quot;bouchons%26quot;, you will find several links, this one for example

tripadvisor.com/…7685980

They will be open on 30th. But if you are here for 31st, you%26#39;d better make a reservation, as some little restaurants will be closed, and the other having special NYE menus.

You should also browse this website to know more about what to do and what to see in Lyon :
