Late summer room for one

Hello,

I am hoping to go to Paris in late August, based on being able to get a decent deal on a flight from Toronto. There are a few hotels in the 1-4th that I would like to stay in, based on location and cost. However, I don%26#39;t want to book the hotel until I know my flight dates. SO, the question is: are there decent (clean...no frills, but clean) single-occupancy rooms in that area (near the Louvre) that are more or less available on a last minute basis?

Thanks in advance for any input.

When you look at flights, check into Jetairways into Brussels, and then train. Their prices can be good.

Thanks for the tip on Jetairways. I have never tried them before. At this point, their prices are comparable to Delta and Air Transat (Cdn charter), but I will keep my eye on them. Any thoughts on the hotel?

Thanks again for your input.

Sinead -

Late August is almost in the middle of the high season, which doesn%26#39;t end now until well into November.

Re last minute reservations - take a look at www.ratestogo.com - I%26#39;ve used them repeatedly for rooms in multiple cities on 3 continents, and they have always been reliable. Rooms have always been exactly as presented. Go to their site and see if you find any hotels that would interest you - use any current date, and then check the box that says all hotels. If there are, you%26#39;ve got a source for a last minute room, if needs be.

Check out the STA agency - they specialize in student travel, so they must have a web site in TO. Also - check out the bucket shops, the ticket consolidators - they buy the tickets unsold at the last minute and market them at a deep discount. If you locate them now, you%26#39;ll be able to keep an eye on their inventory.

I%26#39;m not able to commit to travel much in advance, so I really do understand your situation.

Go to www.kayak.com to check prices on offer regularly so that you%26#39;ll recognize when the prices are going down and watch the forum. There is always someone who very kindly does all of us the favour of advising about major seat sales.

Good luck - and bon voyage.

Actuallly most of August is not considered high season for Paris hotels. Prices in Sept and JUne are much worse, and in fact there are often %26quot;L%26#39;ete Promotions%26quot;( Summer sales)in August especially for some hotels who find there business travellers are down, since August is %26quot;vacation month %26quot; in France

As for area I think 5 th and 6 th outshine 1st and 2 nd by a mile. Also if you look on a map you will see that 6th is right across from Louvre and 1st, so conveinient, but better area for cafes etc.
