Call it divine intervention or fate, we were granted, through friends of dear friends, a free apartment in Paris for the week of Christmas. I would like to bring or buy something for the owners as a little thank you when they return from their holiday trip. I would also like to bring my friends a gift, too. I know Paris affords so many wonderful goodies and gifts, but is there anything I can bring from the states that%26#39;s hard to come by in France? Something portable? I%26#39;m not afraid of silly or kitsch. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Give them something inexpensive that they can use as drinks costers. Dollar bills would do.

The difference is that in this case, a gift is absolutely appropriate -- they%26#39;re lending you their flat for the week!
Something very tasteful, very nice, and made locally would be a great idea -- a local handcraft, especially.

I agree that a gift is necessary in this situation. Locally made food and/or decoration gift would be great.
What we rencently received from friends coming to visit us from the USA, that I liked very much : different things coming from Vermont : Vermont %26quot;Mapple Brittle%26quot; and mapple syrup, a nice hand made pin for me and an original bookmark for my daughter.
