How has the strike affected commute times from the CDG airport to downtown Paris (Notre Dame, Louve,..) and Versailles?
We%26#39;re arriving in Paris on Sat, Nov 24th. If the strike is still going on, what would be the best option to get to downtown Paris (Notre Dame and Louve area)? We we%26#39;re thinking of either taking the RER or renting a car. Would a cab be a better option? What is the quickest way to central Paris during the strike?
Our other option is to rent a car and visit Versailles instead. Is the strike increasing travel times from CDG to Versailles? Should we try another alternative, such as visiting another city near CDG to avoid the strike traffic?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Greg

Take a taxi. +/- 55euro, +/- 1 hour. Taxis are not difficult at CDG even during the strike. I would never recommend renting a car to %26quot;get around%26quot; in Paris, but especially not now. If you are staying centrally in Paris the main sites are in a relatively compact area, and most would be able to walk to them.

Thanks JCK!
We%26#39;ll take your advice and take a cab! (I was fearing that it would be several hours with the meter running).
We%26#39;re staying at the Paris Hilton at CDG, so taking a cab back will also allow us to stay out later than the last RER returns to the airport!
Thanks Again!

A friend of mine was at CDG airport on Monday and found that they were running a special 15 minute train service from there into paris - at least during the daytime. In addition on the previous Saturday when there were no trains running, they were laying on a free coach service as far as Gare du Nord.
My advice would therefore be to check at the station first before getting in a taxi, as apparently the roads leading in to Paris were VERY congested on both days !

Thanks Phil!
The RER terminal appears to be near where my flight lands (Terminal 2E), so I%26#39;ll stop by there and assess the situation, before I get my luggage. I pre-purchased a Paris Metro pass, so if I could use the trains to get to the city%26#39;s center in 2 hours or less, I%26#39;ll probably do that. Otherwise, I%26#39;ll probably take a cab.
Of course, if it looks like it is going to be more than 3 hours to get to the city%26#39;s center, I%26#39;ll probably rent a car and see some small towns outside of Paris instead.
Thanks!

Latest news I%26#39;ve heard is that several Ryanair/Aer Lingus flights to Paris were delayed today because of the strike. Check with your airline Greg whether there are any delays at CDG at this point in time. Maybe today was just a %26#39;once off%26#39; for air travel delays into Paris. But maybe not. Perhaps it%26#39;s a symptom of the creeping malaise which signifies the slow and steady acceleration of the strike.

What about the van shuttles from CDG? Are they still running? If so, how much lead time do you need to bbok tem?

I%26#39;m wondering the same thing about the shuttle service also. I%26#39;ve booked with BEE Shuttle and will be staying on Ave de Suffren next Thurs (that is if the strike continues).
I%26#39;m still within my cancellation period but I%26#39;d like to know as the days get closer and would it be cheaper to pay for a taxi when I%26#39;m only paying $30 US for the trip to and from my apt.

I just got in to Paris this morning at about 9. The trip CDG to the 6eme usually takes 45 minutes. It took close to 2 hours. 80 euro v 50 ish as well. Not pretty. But it%26#39;s good to be here.
BTW, the taxi rank was the shortest we have seen--no problems there, but understand that cabs TO CDG are hard to come by.
