paris christmas eve and christmas

Our family will be in paris for a week and will be there over xmas - any suggestions on where to go, what to do? I was thinking we would visit churches...ice skate...wander about - any other ideas?

See the fabulous Christmas decorations at the major department stores, such as Galeries Lafayette and Au Printemps. Walk up the Champs-Elysées to see more decorations, and don%26#39;t miss the tree in the Place Vendôme. Check out the many concerts at the churches and elsewhere. Look at the yummy displays of holiday foods in the shops. And yes, ice skate at the outdoor rink near the Hôtel-Dieu.

Midnight mass at Notre Dame is by ticket only but otherwise the churches are available. Check for an organ concert at St. Sulpice- a marvelous experience.

It%26#39;s been a long times since I was there over the holidays but my suggestion is to line up your Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners in advance....places may be closed.

how does one get a ticket to midnight mass at ND?

The system as I understand it is two-tiered. A certain number of the seats are reserved for clerical and religious order personnel. The balance go into a lottery for lay religious groups and religious volunteer groups of Paris.

The archbishop of seattle and rector of Seattle University (Jesuit) might be allowed to participate but you and I wouldn%26#39;t.

This info based on New York Times article of several years ago and a lengthy forum on the Fodors website several years ago.

Sorry
