Besides mindlessly grazing from cafe to (open) restaurants, what can we do during the day with my family who%26#39;s coming in from London for just the one day? Most museums will be closed I believe and so will many shops.... Any ideas? Many thanks!

Shops and museums will be closed so I suggest enjoying a leisurely walk through the parks and streets of the city - enjoying the views without the traffic and crowds that are there on every other day of the year.
Of course, the cafe stops along the way will only add to the pleasure.

Almost all museums will be closed, except Beaubourg, that will be open from 11:00am to 9:00pm.
You could have a brunch there at Dame Tartine that will probably be open, visit the museum, and then have a stroll in Paris. According to weather, I suggest either a walk along Canal Saint Martin if the weather is OK, or visit the %26quot;passages%26quot; if the weather is so so.

I agree about doing some walking. It%26#39;s a great day to go exploring, wandering and enjoying the sights. Lots of other people will be out doing the same. It%26#39;s a very nice time to be in Paris during the New Years%26#39;s.
