I will be visiting after Thanksgiving and want to see soem villages with Christmas markets-is Colmar a good base and what towns would you suggest. Should I get a rental car? I will be taking the train back to paris

I am also visiting there around the same time and will have a car. Does anyone have recommendations on where to park? One website I read quoted a cost of 12 euros per hr which must be wrong. Christmas Market, worth visiting? Priority is Issenheim Altarpiece.

Colmar is a good place for a base. Do not miss Strasbourg and Basel also has a nice market too. If you are mainly interested in the markets and visiting the towns you don%26#39;t really need a car as train travel is pretty easy around these towns. If you want to get out to the small villages or up into the Vosges mountains then a car is much more convenient than waiting for local buses.
There are underground car parks in Colmar at normal prices 1-2 euros per hour, but of course it%26#39;s a busy time so they get full. Maybe the 12 euros per hour was to park in a private drive or something. Follow the signs of a big P on blue backround. By habit I use parking %26quot;Rapp%26quot; as it close to the markets and (at Christmas) by the outdoor ice skating rink.
