Overnight stay for shopping

Hi everyone,

We are hoping to travel to Calais for a pre-christmas shopping trip. Can anyone recommend a hotel where we can get a decent breakfast and which is close to the hypermarkets. Also we could do with some advice on the best supermarkets to visit. We are hoping to travel by chunnel

You can visit France now, do all your shopping and not get off of the Eurotunnel complex if that%26#39;s what you want, there is an exit into the Cité Europe from the motorway and three hotels on site. Ibis, Suitehotel %26amp; Etap Hotel it is pretty unlikely you%26#39;ll get a decent breakfast here though!

There are a few others in the village of Coquelles close by you might like to look at Holiday Inn, Videotel %26amp; a B%26amp;B (that’s a hotel not a bed %26amp; breakfast as we know it)

The latter are close to Auchan that has a Sainsburys on the same site, Carrefour is in a covered mall and has a Tesco downstairs.

Close to Auchan is and near the hotels are 2 or 3 wine %26amp; beer outlets.

Dependant on when you travel the supermarkets are closed on Sundays (open nearer to Christmas) and if it’s your cup of tea the Carrefour complex you could spend a day in there and not see the light of day.

Depends what you want to buy and what you want to see?

Very many thanks for your posting. It gives me some ideas for our shopping trip and stay.

Assuming that you are taking a car, The Hotel Metroploe may not be the best hotel but certainly has the huge advantage of secure garage parking. Rooms are clean but basic, breakfast is typically French.

The best supermarkets, well take your pick of the many.

Hi there, if you are planning an overnight stop I recommend Boulogne. It%26#39;s easily accessible via Speedferries. There are some good basic hotels, including a couple of Ibis and a few more upmarket ones. Boulogne has a lot more charm than Calais, although I believe Calais has been smartened up a bit lately. Boulogne has some great restaurants down by the port and a few more touristy ones in the old town, which is lovely, perfect for an overnight stay. We go frequently and prefer to use Auchan on the ring road just out of town. Calais is heaving near Christmas and Boulogne is a bit quieter. Have a great trip!

If you book the holiday inn cockelles, via the holiday inn web site then claim their internet price garentee, our over night B%26amp;B reduced from 120 euro to 77.40 by getting a price from the eurotunnel site /hotels/B+B special offer. you just phone the 0800 number on the HI site give them your confirmation booking no and they reduce to the other price less 10%
