Le Meridien Etoile Hotel

I have read so many terrible reviews on this hotel. We will be staying with our group of 54 people for 3 days from April 13-16. I read that it is a convention hotel, very expenisve food, drinks and entry to the Jazz Club. This was arranged by the company who owns the River Boat company that we will be traveling on after Paris. I just had a positive thought about this hotel. We are there for the week-end including Bastille Day. I was wondering if conventions are absent on the week-ends. Does anyone know? That could save us!!!

Thanks and thanks to all the people who have answered my posts. We are having a luncheon tomorrow to hand out tickets etc. I am going to tell everyone about Trip Advisor. I have been in the travel business myself and have never found a better source of information about travel.

Gee, I don%26#39;t think anyone attends conventions on weekends anywhere, but I may be wrong. I stayed at the Meridien Etoile in 1991. I%26#39;ll be honest and say that it is not a favorite hotel of mine at all. But you%26#39;ll be in Paris so that%26#39;s consolation enough. Really the hotel isn%26#39;t all that bad. For us it was just that the room was decorated circa 1980 and it was pretty small (not unusual for Paris though). The location we didn%26#39;t like but the metro is just a few steps away. Enjoy your visit to Paris!

There are conventions in this hotel all year round except in August. The Jazz Club is expensive but very nice sometimes. Location isn%26#39;t terrible but the metro (line 1) is 50 meters from the hotel and brings you to the Champs-Elysées and the center of Paris very fastly. All rooms are small but that%26#39;s Paris standard. If you%26#39;re there on Bastille day, you can check the fireworks on the evening of the 13th. Best place to see it is the Seine Rivers banks, near the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy your trip. Take care of pickpockets.

Don%26#39;t worry, this hotel is a very modern building, so it does have no charm, but is not THAT terrible. Inside the hotel, there is a very good restaurant called %26quot;L%26#39;Orenoc%26quot; and not far from it, you can have a nice dinner at %26quot;Le Sud%26quot; (just a few meters from the hotel) and %26quot;Le Ballon des Ternes%26quot;. Also a huge FNAC store is not very far, on avenue des ternes (you can walk or take the #43 bus). Inside the Palais des Congres (a conventions building facing your hotel), you will find nice (and outrageously expensive) clothes shops, and a food %26quot;supermarket%26quot; called %26quot;Galeries Gourmandes%26quot; which is very nice (with a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables too) and a Paul bakery. Note that this supermarket is open on sundays (very unusual in Paris).

Loved the hotel and their people, but clearly they have a prolem with their breakfast, it was worse than a **, hummm... terrible.

But I can certainly recommend staying there as you get a very spacious room for far less than the other prestigious hotels you have in Paris.

It%26#39;s not worth spending 700€+ in a room if you do not plan to do anything else than sleeping in...

I also rented a car and a phone at the airport, to avoid taxis and stupid hotel charges for phone calls, it ended up being very cheap.

If you to the Meridien, I suggest you try their fine food restaurant, I had a fantastic romantic diner with my wife the night before we left, great food with excellent cheese selection and...a bottle of red Bordeaux, what else?

I miss Paris already...can%26#39;t wait to come back! AC

just a few words about the Jazz Club called Lionel Hampton Jazz Club with some interesting concerts, especially on monday you often have a big band. You pay no entry but you have an add charge on the first drink ...
