I%26#39;ve got the possiblity of a great deal on going to Sardinia from Hawaii (where I live - tough, I know). I have always wanted to go to Corsica since a guy I climbed with outside of Marseille told me how gorgeous it was. Problem is #1, it looks like no ferries run from from Sardinia to Corsica in the winter (Santa Teresa to Bonifaccio) and #2 Will it be impossible to find accomodation and places to eat that are open? The way I holiday is usually to find some kind of place to stay where I can cook dinner and I just kind of take wandering, hiking and eating excursions during the day. Any suggestions on towns or places to stay? The flight goes into Olbia in Sardinia and I would have about 14 days...
Thanks in advance

You can get a ferry from Porto Torres to Ajaccio in February and March (with SNCM) but they are infrequent.
I fear you will find that many self catering places are shut up for the winter. However, there will certainly be some low-cost hotels that would be delighted to see you at that time. There will also be some restaurants open in the towns.
If you like walking, you might like to take the train to Corte and spend some time in the Restonica Valley. Then maybe hire a car and go to the Balagne and/or Cap Corse for a few days. You will find some hotels on www.corsica-isula.com, but I%26#39;d also suggest U Pozzu in Sisco, Cap Corse (www.u-pozzu.com), a biggish family run hotel at the centre of the village and not too pricey. We stay there when we go walking in the Cap - great food. DTR
