I will be in Paris for a week and then would like to do a wine tour. My choice is Alsace and I will be taking a train and then hoping to get around without a car as I don%26#39;t feel comfortable driving in a different country. Is there are wine tours that are only 1 or 2 days that anyone can recommend. I was thinking of staying in Colmar if it is easy to take a train there from Paris.
Thanks!

It is easy to travel to Colmar by train. Trains leave from Gare de l%26#39;Est, some are direct but most will involve a change in Strasbourg.
Colmar is a wonderful town although I have no idea how easy it will be to go on the wine route without a vehicle.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if it is possible to rent a car in Colmar just to do the wine tour. Is the driving very complicated? I was hoping that there might be an organized wine tour out of Colmar to make it easier. Do you have any suggestions as to a moderately priced Hotel there, just for one person.

All of the major rental comapnies can be found in Colmar, I am reasonably certain that there is an Avis at the train station.
Colmar has many hotels, the Bristol is by the station, this is a Best western property.
The Novotel and the Ibis are both an easy stroll from the historic centre.
I have driven in Alsace many times and had no problems, in the summer many villages, Riquewihr in particular, can get extremely crowded and parking can be a nuisance.
I have no idea about tours sorry

You are well advised to beware of driving in Paris or even Strasbourg, but Colmar and the Route du Vin are no problem if you are a reasonably good driver in the US. Your dilemma will be staying sober. I%26#39;ve never done it (take the bus that is) but I%26#39;ve heard it can be done to many of the villages and that the tourist office in Colmar has schedules. You can visit their website (in English):

It%26#39;s possible you can get some bus schedules before you go. You could easily spend your available time between the towns of Riquewihr and Ribeauville with a short hike (or taxi ride) to the castle. These are absolutely magnificent medieval walled towns well accesible on foot and you would also have the opportunity to visit some of the wineries (Hugel, Dopf Irion, Trimbach, etc.) that you might have already tasted here and to visit some you have never heard of. And don%26#39;t forget to sample the eau de vie!
I am doing an eight day walking tour next summer mainly to avoid driving and tasting. As the man once said, been there done that. And I LOVE the eau de vie.

er, I meant drinking and driving...... not drinking and tasting.....
