We travel from Calais to the Dordogne next March and will probably stop over somewhere on the way down for the night. We are looking for a quietish town with a typical French feel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

When I drove to Lot I stayed in Rouen, pleanty of good restaurants. The hotel overlooked the river and had a secure underground car park I do not remeber the name of the hotel but was a 5 minute walk to the indoor market.

What time are you planning to arrive in Calais?
This would help as far as picking somewhere that is a reasonable driving time.
ALSO where are you staying in the Dordogne area - have you a place booked, or are you going to be touring - if so, where is your first %26#39;port-of-call%26#39; in the Dordogne region? This info would help, I have LOTS of suggestions, but need to narrow it down a bit!

Half way down is in the vicinity of Orleans.
