We will be arriving in Lille via train after a week in Holland/ Belgium and renting a car, driving to Honfleur. Any suggested stops along the way on this route? I know of www.viamichelin.com for routing but I am looking for little gems along the way....Thanks for your tips!

We are taking the same route, did you find any place to see along the way?
|||
We changed our plans and did not include France on that trip at all. Sorry I cannot be of help. I do know form past trips that Honfleur is a MUST...really cute little town, we only had a few hours there and I wish we had stayed over for 1 night....

We are staying in Honfleur for 2 nights!!

Along the way you could stop and have a look at the interesting old town in Arras. Nearby is Vimy Ridge and the Canadian WW1 Memorial — very moving and a %26quot;must see%26quot; if you are passing this way IMO.
Farther on the magnificent cathedral at Amiens is definitely worth a stop.
Rouen is a short detour from the direct route and is interesting for its historic associations with Joan of Arc, its medieval old town and its cathedral. Nearby the splendid ruins of the abbey of Jumièges are both moving and impressive. This would be a good place perhaps for a lunch stop. If you want a couple of good restaurant recommendations in the area let me know.

Restaurant recommendations would be wonderful! Thanks.

At Jumièges:

Chef Loic Henry%26#39;s delightful country restaurant deserves to be better known than it is. Serious cuisine with a flair. %26quot;Worth a detour!%26quot;

You would need a reservation at all these places, probably a few days ahead at the first two, definitely a couple of weeks ahead at the last, more in summertime and on weekends.

Ignore the Irish fella!!!!!!- Rouen is a h€llhole and should be avoided at all costs. I get lost there..and that is supposedly staying on the motorway. At the moment it appears to be the cntre for all roadworks, especially the bit just south of the city. They also dont do roadsigns (either that or they DO but they all point the wrong way).
From Lille, head across country to through Arras to Abbeville. From there take the A28, turning off at Neufchatel-en-Bray for lunch at the Hostellerie du Grand Cerf. It%26#39;s in the main street as you enter town on the first turn off from the highway. You should have time for the 3 course menu.
From there, follow the signs to St-Saens (very pretty) Totes and Yvetot. This is a back road, so very quiet, but not very fast.
Fron Yvetot take the D131 which turns into the D490 to cross the Seine and then at Bourg the N175 which should be signposted Honfleur.
This trip takes about 6 hours including stops, avoids all tolls (except for maybe the one at the bridge across the Seine - can%26#39;t remember) and gets some serious scenery into the system.

Ignore the Aussie bloke!!!! I%26#39;ve driven into, out of and through Rouen a bunch of times with no real issues. He%26#39;s probably all confused with trying to drive on both sides of the road at once so he can%26#39;t remember from one day to the next which hand is the right and which the left. It does get confusing...
I can%26#39;t speak to the current state of roadworks in the area. The Aussie git is quite possibly more up-to-date with his knowledge there.
Nothing wrong with his route. It%26#39;s just a different approach.

Irish
The problem with Rouen is twofold (three is you count Mrs Wiz%26#39;s inability to give precise instruction - nothing to do with me not listening, or whatever it is she says.)
Mappy doesnt deal at all well with Rouen - it insists on taking you though the middle of town (sometimes twice) rather than keeping you on the perfectly good and logical N338.
The second is all the roadworks just south of the city - dirt (or dirt covered) roads with water drums marking where the roads should be. Because of the roadworks the sinage is haphazard (or was 6 days ago, last time I drove it).
The alternative is to get on the A29 ay Amiens, and stay on it until after the big bridge. Either way, the restaurant at Neufchatel is a must.

Would it be worth while to head to the coast and drive along it?
