Hello
I am part of a large group of adults and children (55 approx) who take an annual skiing trip each year. We usually head to a chalet in the Italian Dolomites but they can%26#39;t accommodate us this year and the company is recommending one of their other properties %26#39;Les Melezes%26#39; in Les Boisses, Tignes. I%26#39;ve found a little info here but any views on the following would be very much appreciated...
Our group consists of adults and children - kids from approx 9yrs to teenage - from fairly new to experienced skiers and borders. Are the runs in the area OK for such a group? Seems like there is a fair selection.
Ease of getting to chair lifts and gondolas? Is it a long schlep to get to them - I get the impression there%26#39;s only one gondola at Les Brevieres (Sache?). Is this a long or difficult walk from Les Boisses? We do have a few people who come along and don%26#39;t ski but still want to get out and about and up the mountain occasionally to join others for lunch.
In light of the above - is there anything for non-skiers to do (will be there in mid-April 2008 if we go with this offer) and is it possible to get around on public transport? If not are taxi%26#39;s available and how plentiful?
Are there any shops/restaurants/bars? I get the impression that it is a no for Les Boisses - but would getting to Le Lac or Les Brievieres be more hassle than it%26#39;s worth? Especially in the evening. How long would it take approx? The chalet is catered but we still like to have some options!
What is the skiing like in April?
While a change is not a bad thing the town of San Cassiano was near perfect for our group and it%26#39;s needs and I%26#39;m a little concerned that Les Boisses is somewhat more islolated.
Thanks in advance. Anything that I%26#39;ve not asked that you have an opinion on re Les Boisses do tell!

Hi,
Don%26#39;t worry about the skiing/boarding - the area will suit everyone in your group. It caters more to intermediates and experts than beginners, but there%26#39;s still a load of blue runs to keep everyone amused.
Boisses isn%26#39;t the best for chairs and gondolas. There%26#39;s a small, old, long, slow, 2-man chair that can be used by pedestrians and takes you down to Les Brev, and from here you can get a gondola up into the Aiguille Percee part of the skiable area, but it drops you in the middle of nowhere. The best bet is to get the free bus up to Le Lac. Takes 10 minutes and runs every half hour until maybe 7pm when I think it%26#39;s every hour until midnight. The info centre would be able to help with exact times - try tignes.net for numbers.
Boisses does have some other bars and restaurants (The Dome is over the road from the Melezes and has a popular bar), but most are up in Lac, Lavachet and Val Claret so you would either have to get the bus or book some taxis. I wouldn%26#39;t say taxis were plentiful, so you should book them in advance. Lac and Lavachet is also where most of the non-skiing activities are. New leisure centre, parapenting, horse riding, dog-sleding, ice karting, ice diving, bowling, shopping. There%26#39;s lots to do. For a greater range of shops you could also get the 10 Euro bus to Val d%26#39;Isere for the day. There are several restaurants on the mountain that pedestrians can get to as well. Ones at the top of the Chaudanne and Aeroski de Tovierre lifts are good, but my favourite%26#39;s the Fruitiere - you%26#39;d have to get the bus to La Daille in Val d%26#39;Isere and get the bubble up if you were on foot.
Your biggest problem might be the middle of April date. Easter%26#39;s pretty early next year (23rd March) and people usually wind down a bit after it. Most bars and restaurants should still be open though. Dependent on the weather you may not be able to ski down to Boisse in mid April if the snow%26#39;s melted and this will also stop some of the activities like the dog-sleding and ice karting. Otherwise, the skiing is generally still good. I had some excellent mid-April days this year. It%26#39;s typically spring like - hard and icy in the morning, soft and slushy in the afternoon.
You just can%26#39;t predict the weather though - we may have another warm winter and they might consider shutting some of the connections to Boisses, or it might snow through March and April with ridiculously cold temperatures, you just don%26#39;t know.
Cheers,
Matt

Hello
We%26#39;re actually now booked at an alternative resort in Italy but I would still be very interested in your feedback for future trips.
Have a great time.
