Hi,
My husband is 71 and it is starting to get difficult getting ski insurance for him, I think we are OK this year but I think we are going to have major problems in the next few years. It seems that the Insurance companies start to write you off if you are 65 plus!!
My husband has been skiing for over 30 years, so have I and our son who is 13/14 has skied every year of his life. My husband is relatively fit and healthy, give him a black run and although slower than he might have been a few years ago, will still get down with no problem.
What do other people do of this age for their Insurance - I look forward to reading your replies.

Thisis an interesting question. My dad still skis at 73, and he also climbs mountains.
Difference is he does not leave our country to do so , so if he falls he is covered under the regular medical insurance we all have here., I guess on holiday in a foriegn country his extra insurance may not cover %26quot;sporting incidents%26quot;.

hi ,it is scandolous the way insurance companies regard older people, have you tried - SAGA or Carte Niege, also when you purchase your ski pass the attendent in the kiosk usually asks whether you require Assurance%26#39; which is added to the cost of the ski pass and is usaully an extra couple of pounds or so.
The only other thing i could suggest would be to contact the Ski Club of Great Britain and ask thier advise.
hope this is of some help and wish you all the best.

Hello JonG,
Many thanks for your comments. I used to be a member of the SCGB, so if all else fails I%26#39;ll give them a call, in fact I%26#39;ll give them a call anyway. During all the years skiing, we have never obtained our ski pass personally from the ticket office, this is usually dealt with direct from the chalet, all done for you or even prior to that, on the coach. Actually, I think I tell a lie, when we skied in the states, I think we dealt with it ourselves. However, I don%26#39;t thibk I would like to leave ski insurance until the last minute, but it certainly is an option if everything else fails. So thank you very much. I see you have a property in the mountains, and are an avid skier, so I expect you will be looking forward to this forthcoming season with anticipation, especially as the snow has already dumped a substancial amount and everything looks so beautiful already. We are off the Ruberty at Christmas. Don%26#39;t really like that side of the valley, except for passing through it to VT, (we prefer Meribel, more central) but we have a very pretty chalet with Silver Ski (fabulous Company, been with them for many years - Chalet William) and with doorstep skiing and a snow park on the doorstep, ideal for my son and with all the recent snow, I think it will be great, so roll on Christmas.

hi ,
glad i could be of some use,yes i am looking forward to what i think is going to be a very good year for snow,am going out for a long weekend on 22 nov (have a leaky tap to fix, well thats the excuse i am using)so will ask some locals i am friends with and see what kind of a season they think we will have.
While i think, you could also try Columbus ,or World Ski %26amp; Snowboard( i think the web address is still www.worldski.co.uk or www.worldtravellersclub.co.uk).
many regards
and have a pleasant safe and enjoyable trip

Have you tried Saga Insurance? They have no upper age limit and I believe they will tailor a policy for you to include winter sports.

Thank-you everybody for your advice and suggestions, it has been extremely difficult but I have just cracked it!
It seems that if you are prefectly healthy you might be able to get ski insurance if you are 71 plus but if you declare a health issue, thats when the barriers come up. Even a tablet for slight blood pressure is a problem, then you mention slight type 2 diabetes, although with absolutely no side complications whatsoever and then add that you had prostate cancer that is totally gone - they think you are mad to think of even leaving your own front door, let alone skiing!!
Anyway - Go Travel is the answer. Even with all medical conditions taken into account we now have Wintersports and Wolrdwide -no problem whatsoever. This is the type of insurance we always have but because of the medical conditions, our previous insurance company would only do individual trips and not worldwide anymore - too risky!! That is how, on my research I started to have problems. However all is now solved, so if anybody is having similar problems, just go to GO TRAVEL.
