Taxi or rental car?

We are heading into Paris on Thursday. With the strikes and all we were wondering if it would be better to just rent a car at CDG and head into the city. We%26#39;ve been getting mixed reviews, but it seems it%26#39;s easy to get a taxi. Our question is how long should we expect to sit in traffic? If it%26#39;s a long time, would it be more cost efficient to just get a car?

This is assuming the taxi ride is not a flat rate, but rather by the mile/time spent...is that right?

Any help is appreciated!!

We are staying near Trocadero.

I should add our flight comes in at 10:10am and the rental car will cost approximately 135 euros.

The question is what are you going to do with the rental car once in Paris. Parking is very expensive and I do not recommend your trying to drive around the city.

Strikes are full of unknowns but if taxis are available, then just use one. Late morning on Thursday (normally minimal traffic) I should think a taxi to Trocadero from CDG will cost around 40-55 euros plus tip.

You are correct, taxis charge by time/mileage but Trocadero is relatively easy to reach from CDG.

Thanks so much! We didn%26#39;t plan on keeping the car, just dropping it off once in the city. But it sounds like that will be unnecessary. Thanks again!

I agree that a taxi would be better than a rental car. For less than the rental car cost, you also could consider a car service (they would meet you right outside of baggage claim, so you would skip the taxi line - which might be longer than normal since people will not have the option of taking the RER).

Berkeley brings up a good point. Being picked up in style is not that expensive and limo services are arguably more reliable and faster than shuttle services (which can make numerous stops along the way):
