Lille - New Year visit.

Any advice on what to see and do in Lille during the New Year period?

Are there likely to be any events such as outdoor markets, festivals, firework displays or public celebrations to mark the New Year?

Also will the buses and Metro be running?

I%26#39;m finding it very difficult to discover what is likely to happen in, and around, Lille over New Year.

Apparently the transport systems will be as normal except on New Years Day - no surprise there!

As for %26#39;events%26#39; there seems little information available and the Tourist Office website is as useful as a chocolate teapot.

There%26#39;s a guidebook that may be useful - the Bradt guide to Lille by Laurence Phillips (about £7 per copy) - two people have recommended it. I haven%26#39;t read it yet but I have ordered one.

If I find anything of interest I%26#39;ll post it on this forum.

PS - You don%26#39;t happen to have a spare Rugby Final ticket available?

Just received my copy of the Bradt book %26#39;Lille%26#39; by Laurence Phillips.

It%26#39;s an excellent guide to Lille on every aspect of the City - including eating establishments (61 pages), shopping, accommodation, nightlife and transport.

It%26#39;s about the same size as the Channel Hopper%26#39;s Guide, but more pages, and should be easy to carry around whilst in Lille. I would recommend anyone to read it - although the one downside is that this 2nd edition was printed in 2005 and the prices it quotes may be a little on the low side for 2007/8.

Hi, I have also booked New Year in Lille and can not find one single, itzy witzy bit of info on what is happening there - agggrrrrr - help - does anyone know yet... surely there must be something !?!?
