la rochelle food

bistro du port on rue du port, friendly and good food with ample helpings. very accomodating. turned up when everything else was shut and they let us eat and drink at our leisure. suntanned waitress very good at her job.

aqaurium well worth a look! planned to spend 1 hour. was in there 3! the sawtooth shark was amazing. very scary when a shark is heading towards you even though the glass was a foot thick.

il de re. hire a cycle and see the whole island at your leisure.

had oyster lunch at a random oyster farm. served wine and other stuff. very cheap. charming.

beaches; if you can get over the sea weed and the cold water fantastic. get yourself a clear section anytime of the day.

if you go to the top of rue de port onto the pedestrianised street and turn left there is a very good place there. looks very rustic with a green front. cant remember the name. best foie gras i%26#39;ve ever had. good service cheap and less stuffy than an equivalent french restaurant.

I%26#39;m wondering whether the resaurant is the Champetre. If not, try it anyway . It%26#39;s great food, friendly waiter - his brother is the chef - and great atmosphere. Only open at night but stays open later than most.

The beaches in La Rochelle aren%26#39;t the best in the area to be honest. If you fancy a bit of a drive, and a change from the Ile de Re, (which is really beautiful), go up the coast to the beaches in the south Vendee. La Faute, La Tranche, La Terrier, are all good, but my personal favourite is Les Conches.

It%26#39;s a beautiful beach with great waves when the tide is right, and there is a pine forest just over the dunes.

There%26#39;s plenty of information on beaches, La Rochelle, and the surrounding area on www.francehols.co.uk

Could anybody please provide an indication of the price ranges charged in restaurants in la rochelle, for example on a cheap, medium and expensive basis.

Going to La Rochelle only for a day or two, but am very interested in visiting an oyster farm. could you give me an ideas or recommendation? how do we find them?

Thanks!
