Hi - going to chamonix 4th-8th jan 2008 with wife and two daughters age 7 and 6. they haven%26#39;t skied before and with us only being there for 4 nights would rather do mostly non ski activities. anybody know of snow fun things to do in the area that they might like eg sledging, snow tubing, toboganning, huskies etc. Also can anybody recommend a nice reasonable hotel with 4 bedded rooms that is in the heart of the action rather than stuck in the middle of nowhere. qwe will have acar but would like to walk to restaurants at night.

Not sure about the huskies but Chamonix has a large sports centre with Olympic sized pool and a big water slide.
There is the aguile du Midi - this you must do it will take half a day or so but wrap up very warm.
Sledging at Les Planards.
Hotels I have not stayed in Chamonix, well not for 20 years, but your best bet would be to try www.chamonix.com and go to accommodation.
Then it depends on your budget as most french hotels do family rooms.
Re your other post Chamonix would be far the best bet for you.

There%26#39;s a list of family activities here - look down the bottom of the page for all the non-skiing options:
chaletlaforet.com/winter/familyactivities.ht…
If you have a car, you might prefer to stay a little further out as hotels on the outskirts or in the villages will be more likely to have outdoor space for the kids, and will often be close to restaurants. Try calling the tourist office about hotels with family rooms, they are usually very helpful.

btw out of that list, I%26#39;d recommend the Paradis des Praz, the huskies and the helicopter in ascending order of price :)

There is also a 10 pin bowling alley, big ice rink, and a great indoor climbing wall (in Les Houches) when you need indoor things to do. If you feeling educational, the Musee Alpin has some interesting history of Chamonix and Mont Blanc. You can sledge on the paragliding landing field in the Bois de Bouchet. It is also fun to try ski de fond with kids of that age. It is easier to get the hang of than alpine skiing, and you get get out around the Bois de Bouchet, perhaps stopping at Robinsons restaurant for lunch or hot chocolate. There is a ski hire shop oppsite the Foyer de Fond close to the pool and ice rink.
The Hotel L%26#39;Oustalet is well located close to the centre within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants and has some 4 bed rooms. There are some with bunks in the entrance to the main room and some with a small separate bunk room.
